PSA EIA kit
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland, has a molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa. PSA plays a functional role in the proteolytic cleavage of seminal vesicle proteins, liquefaction of the seminal gel and augmentation of the sperm mobility. In blood, PSA exists in two forms: complexed with a proteinase inhibitor. a1- antichymotrypsin or a-macrogloboulin, and (bas a minor free componentSerum levels of PSA are low in apparently healthy men, as well as in men with non-prostatic carcinomas. Moderate to high levels of PSA are found in the serum of diagnosed prostate cancer patients or in other abnormal prostate conditions such as prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia, PSA level is a good indicator for early detection of prostate cancer and monitoring therapy and change in clinical status. Elevated PSA levels after radical prostatectomy may indicate incomplete removal of the tumor or the presence of the metastasis.
